
Sophia Prodanova is a London – based Bulgarian violinist, graduate of the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
She is the 3rd Prize winner of the International Bach Competition in Leipzig (2022) and this year became a Jumpstart Jr Foundation artist – receiving a 1596 Brothers Amati violin, from their Sparrey Collection for a period of 3 years.
Sophia enjoys working with a wide variety of ensembles internationally – Arcangelo (Jonathan Cohen), Pygmalion (Raphael Pichon), Ensemble Masques (Olivier Fortin), Helsinki Baroque (Aapo Häkkinen), Irish Baroque Orchestra (Peter Whelan), The English Concert (Harry Bickett/Kristian Bezuidenhout), Dunedin Consort (John Butt), Benedetti Baroque Orchestra (Nicola Benedetti), Balthasar Neumann Ensemble (Thomas Hengelbrock), Il Pomo d’Oro (Maxim Emelyanychev), Mozartists (Ian Page). In 2022 she appeared as a guest principal 1st violin with Ensemble Pygmalion for their large-scale project “Chemins de Bach”.
During her studies at the Guildhall School, Sophia has appeared as a leader of the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican Hall, Guildhall Opera Orchestra, Guildhall Baroque Orchestra, Guildhall Cantata Ensemble and Fidelio Orchestra.
In 2020 she was the recipient of the New Ensemblists Scheme with the UK period performance ensemble Arcangelo (Jonathan Cohen) for a period of 2 years, which included fully professional performance experiences as a member – concerts at the BBC Proms, Barbican Hall, Wigmore Hall, including her solo debut there, masterclasses with Kati Debretzeni, Bojan Cicic and Nicholas Mulroy, as well as CD recordings for Alpha Classics and Sony.
